765. Mercy Now

Lawdy Mercy Me Honey Chillin’s!!! So Mercy Now. It’s a song by the excellent Mary Gauthier. More on that later. When we think of mercy, divine mercy is usually what we think of. I ain’t talking about that nor feel like tackling it. We are talking about human mercy… the act of forgiveness when we feel others have done us wrong. It’s an act of kindness that places the ongoing continued relationship above any wrong-doing or perceived wrong-doing. It is an act of love and grace basically. And I think when we practice it, it has the ability to elevate the human soul.

Mercy Now

My father could use a little mercy now
The fruits of his labor fall and rot slowly on the ground
His work is almost over it won’t be long, he won’t be around
I love my father, he could use some mercy now.

My brother could use a little mercy now
He’s a stranger to freedom, he’s shackled to his fear and his doubt
The pain that he lives in it’s almost more than living will allow
I love my brother, he could use some mercy now

Now that’s a great powerful song right there. A good thing with a good message. Let’s see how artists depict human mercy, shall we?

So find a way to bear no ill will to your fellow brothers and sisters. I am free I feel from that feeling to others in my life. Sure, I could use some soul-searching to arrive to a place where I’m free and clear of negative thoughts about Senor Dictator Trump, but I think I can get there. I ain’t talking about that friends… for now at least.

And if you happen to have any kind of negative thoughts towards me… I’m sure we can work that out. I could use some mercy now. A good thing.
