890. The Dragon Blood Tree

The Dragon Blood

Every now and then there exists somewhere on the earth something so strange in the natural world that it’s hard to believe they exist. Such is the Dragon Blood tree. First, the name itself is pretty kick ass!! Called such, because of the way the wood bleeds a blood colored sap if cut.

The tree is native to the Socotra Islands (Arabian Sea, Yemen) and only grows naturally there, completely cut off to any mainland and just allowed to grow for that unique climate. It’s a cousin to the Palm Tree and is mushroom or umbrella-shaped. In fact the evergreen leaves that grow on top resemble tufts of ornamental grass you’d landscape with. Crazy right?? Watch this video here.

The Socotra Dragons’ Blood Tree. Good.
